MEETING THE INNER CHILD
Fabric, gauze, cyanotype on cotton, embroidery on flannel, wooden crib, mirror, note bag, organza canopy, plastic. Cocoon 43×18 cm, crib 50×67×39 cm
This immersive installation was created at the “Childhood” residency at the SHKAF Library and Art Residency in St. Petersburg and is presented to the public as part of the “Childhood” exhibition at the institution’s exhibition space.
Viewers can touch the figurine, rock it in its cradle, hug it, and even “swaddle” the cocoon. On the included slips of paper, they can write personal messages to their inner child and place them in the crib.

This immersive installation creates a sacred space for dialogue with the deepest aspects of one’s personality. At the center of the composition is a cradle-like crib under a canopy embroidered with lullaby texts, immersing the viewer in an atmosphere of safety and trust.
A biomorphic cocoon, wrapped in a blanket embroidered with the phrase “You are not alone, I am here to embrace and support you, ” represents the inner child. Its surface, covered with gauze bandages, symbolizes vulnerability and the healing process. A built-in mirror creates a moment of connection, reflecting the viewer as they interact with the object.
The interactive component includes interaction with the cocoon: rocking it as an access to physical childhood memories, swaddling it as an act of self-care, and writing a message to the inner child. The collected texts will form the basis for an art zine—a further exploration of the theme in book form. The project is based on the principles of body-oriented therapy, inviting visitors to experience acceptance through tactile contact and personal expression.
The installation functions as a therapeutic space where metaphorical images and physical actions facilitate the integration of emotional experience.
